Alle Mae Bertelsen Tyler
   Alle Mae Bertelsen Tyler, 96, of Clifton, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco following complications from a fall. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Clifton with Rev. James Ballard officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Clifton Cemetery.
   Alle Mae was born on September 25, 1913 to Scandinavian parents, Martin J. Bertelson and Alice Terguson Bertelson in the Mustang Community near Cranfills Gap. Her grandparents were all Bosque County pioneers from Scandinavia. She was the middle child of seven children, one boy and six girls. In 1918 at the age of 5 she moved with her family to Cranfills Gap. After graduating from Cranfills Gap High School and Clifton College Academy she received her Associate of Arts Degree from Clifton Junior College. At age 42 she earned the Bachelor of Science degree from North Texas State University in 1956 and in 1960 she obtained her Master of Science degree in Education from Baylor University.
   Alle Mae taught grades 1-4 in a two room school in the Boggy community for 2 years. In 1934 she married Ottis Tyler of the Live Oak Community. They lived on his farm where he operated his own trucking business and farmed. Other residences for the Tylers included Anson, Abilene, Monahans, Sweetwater and Fort Worth. To this union 2 sons were born, O Jan Tyler and Franklin Thomas Tyler. In 1956 the family moved to Clifton where Ottis had his plumbing service and Alle Mae resumed her teaching. She taught 4th grade at Clifton Elementary School. She retired in 1979 after teaching 25 years, 23 of those years in the same classroom.
   The family joined the Clifton Methodist Church in 1956. Alle Mae appreciated her Christian faith that was established in her early years as a member of St Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. She loved her church family, music, singing, playing piano, organ and enjoyed her years as a member of the choir.
   Alle Mae loved  and was loved by her entire family and enjoyed each and every family gathering, reunion, and birthday or holiday celebration. She loved to sing, play the piano, cook, bake and entertain her family and friends.
   Alle Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis; son, O Jan Tyler; daughter in law, Virginia; and grandsons, Mitchell and Marcus.
   Survivors include her son, Frank and wife Betty of Corinth, grandson, Brandon Tyler and wife Christi of Denton; grandson Bryan Tyler of Lufkin; grandson Michael Tyler and wife Susi of Lubbock; granddaughter Martha Tyler MacFarland and husband Rob of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughter Mary Tyler Heckmann and husband Kris of Austin; 9 great grandchildren, Brady, Nathan and Corban tyler of Denton, Sole Tyler of Lufkin, Robert and Alex Tyler of Lubbock, Robbie MacFarland of Overland Park, Kansas and Leah and Kyle Heckmann of Austin. Survivors also include her sister, Margie Rhoades of Fort Worth, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
   Clifton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Clifton or the Lutheran Sunset Ministries/Clifton Sunset Home.


Glen G. Timmons
   Glen G. Timmons, 73, of Gatesville, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services were held Monday, April 12, at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Robert Cavanaugh officiating. Glen Gale Timmons was born on Feb. 1, 1937 in Levita, Coryell County, to the late Bailey and Odell Dyson Timmons. 
   He started working at the local telephone company and retired from Sprint Telephone Company after 25 years of service. Glen enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting Native American artifacts, and anything mechanical, especially restoring antique cars. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Glen is survived by three children, Ginger Dossman of Gatesville, Alan D. Timmons of Hamilton, and Wendy Suggs of Jonesboro; two sisters, Jean Woodard of Lorena and Jenice Stephan of Copperas Cove; and seven grandchildren, Dustin, Nathaniel, Amanda, Chelsea, Patrick, Mackenzie and Raven.


Frances (Fran) McDowell
   Frances Louise (Fran) McDowell, 85, of Valley Mills, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010. Funeral services were held Friday, April 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Valley Mills. Interment was at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
   Fran was born in Harlingen, on March 23, 1925. She grew up there, later moving to Houston where she met and fell in love with E. B. (Mac) McDowell. They were married on January 6, 1945, in Florida before his World War II deployment. They had two daughters, Janey and Lee Ann. They moved to Valley Mills in 1957 where they have since resided.
   Granny, as she was lovingly known, loved her family dearly. She adored her grandchildren, never missing an event they were a part of, always cheering them on. She loved doing what she could to help everyone, nothing was ever too much to ask. She was a very loving and giving person who was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
   She was preceded in death by her parents Clive and Bertha Turner; one brother, Clive D. Turner; one sister, Myldred Martin; her precious grandson Jordan Lee Sears; and son-in-law Roger Kaiser.
   Left to treasure her memory are her devoted husband of 65 years, Mac; two daughters, Janey Kaiser and Lee Ann Land; a sister, Helyn Guerry; grandchildren, David Hinton and wife, Michelle; Jennifer Warner and husband, Matt; Josh Sears; Jared Sears and wife, Stephanie; grand-daughter-in-law, Lacey Sears; five great grandchildren, Sheyanne, Carter, Mason, Cross, and Sloane. She is also survived by two step-granddaughters, Terri Kucera and Lorri Kaiser Dyer and husband, Jon; and three step-greatgrandchildren, Megan, Blake, and Paige.
   Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton, the First United Methodist Church in Valley Mills or the Alzheimer’s Association.


Marianne Cecilia Noga Allison
   Marianne Cecilia Noga Allison, 86, passed away on March 4, 2010, at her residence at the Sunset Home in Clifton. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Tyler.
   Maria Anna Noga was born on June 16, 1923, in Bardiov Kupele Czechoslovakia the daughter of Jacob and Mary Jureckova Noga.
   She attended Straubenmuller Textile High School in New York City and took two years of post-graduate work in business administration. She grew up in Bayside, N.Y. She married Duane Allison on Feb. 25, 1970, in Bermuda. She had lived in Newport Beach and San Mateo, Calif.; Palesine and Clifton.
   She had been the executive secretary to the vice-president of international sales for the Johns-Manville of New York/San Mateo.
   During the last few years in Clifton, she enjoyed going to Brookshires every Friday with the Rainbow Village Group and she had several favorite check-out girls and appreciated “Bob” at the pharmacy for his thoughtfulness.
   Her hobbies included growing beautiful flowers, golf, bingo, horse racing, shopping, traveling, and gourmet food. She loved getting dressed up for parties, California, and the beach. She was unique and eccentric in taste and style and loved watching the Breeders Cup and other sporting events. Those who knew her loved her just the way she was, said a family member.
   Along with the staff and residents at Goodall-Witcher Hospital and Lutheran Sunset Ministries and Rainbow Village, the family wishes to thank Marion Mount for leading Marianne Allison to the Lord – the best gift ever.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Allison; brother, George S. Noga; and sister, Helen Noga Connelly.
   Survivors include her sister-in-law, Pat Noga Breedlove of Tyler; niece, Sherry Noga Crigger and husband, Roy, and daughter Stephanie, of Hewitt; niece, Patrice Noga Bowles and husband, Mark, and children, Zachary and Brittany Bowles of Corinth; great-nephew Matthew Bowles and wife, Lindy, of Denton; nephew, George Stephen Noga, Jr., and wife, Sonya, and children, George S. Noga III, Joseph Noga, and Nessica Noga of Dallas.

Funeral services for Clifford Vernon Bronstad, 83, of Clifton, will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse with burial at Norse Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Clifton Funeral Home.

Bronstad was born Jan. 28, 1927, to E.G. and Otillie Bronstad in the Norse community. He passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010.

Bronstad served in the U.S. Army during 1945-46.

He married Clara Dee Kleine on March 8, 1952, and the couple made their home in Clifton.

He started his career at the Clifton Mercantile and then moved to Keeling’s Department Sore, which later became Bertelson’s. He retired in 1986.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8553 in Clifton.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse where he was baptized, confirmed, and married.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton Douglas Bronstad, Orville Bronstad, Edgar Bronstad, Dwain Bronstad, and Arthur (Buck) Bronstad; and sisters, Ethel Woodward, Hazel Elmira Carminatti, and Evelyn Kettler.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Dee Bronstad; brother, Floyd Bronstad; daughters, Sherry Duke and husband, Tom, of Clifton, Hazel Zellmer and husband, Ron, of Kyle, and Deborah Everett and husband, David, of Clifton; grandchildren, Jeremy Everett and wife, Crystal, Alana Latiolais and husband, Tim, Zach Duke and wife, Kristin; and two great-grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 Martha Jane Simmons, 86, of Valley Mills, passed away Monday, March 22,
2010, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m.,Wednesday, March 24
at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills with Rev. Koby Strawser officiating. 

Graveside service will be 2 p.m., at Greenwood Memorial Park in Ft. Worth under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Martha was born on July 8, 1924, at the Continental Oil Camp in Mexia, to Thomas and Della (Briscoe) McCrorey.  She graduated high school in Kermit and attended Hardin Simmons on a voice scholarship. 

She married 2nd Lt. Charles L. Simmons in 1942. She was an Air Force wife for 28 years.


Martha enjoyed teaching Bible study, playing golf, bowling, skeet shooting, flower gardening, and sewing. She worked for Valley Mills I.S.D. as a school bus driver, Valley Mills Care Center, as a Dental Assistant, was very active in the benevolence committee with the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, and a great granddaughter, Emily Marie.
She is survived by daughters, Becky Strawser and husband Harry of Valley Mills, Rachel Simmons of Louisiana, Rhoda Simmons of Valley Mills; a son, Charles L. Simmons III of Valley Mills; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also her Chihuahua Topsey and cat Pricilla who were her constant loyal companions.

Graveside services for Bobbie Awalt Bentley Batterall of McGregor, formerly of Clifton, will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Norse Cemetery, at 10 a.m.

Bobbie Awalt was born on Oct. 1, 1935, the daughter of Jesse C. Awalt and Frances Simmons Awalt. She went to rest with God on March 25, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband of 32 years, Dr. Thomas G. Bentley.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 15 years, Wilson D. (Bill) Batterall; a brother, Warren Awalt and wife, Sissy, of Fairfield; son, Keith Bentley and wife, Hayley of Killeen; daughter, Susan Outlaw and husband, Keith, of Hutto; stepdaughter Kristi Barrientos and husband, Jay, of Plano; grandchildren, Lauren Cloud and husband, Dustin; Lacy, Lindsey. and Bradley Bentley of Killeen; Jordan, Buckley, and Madison Outlaw of Hutto, Javier, Andres and Melena Barrientos of Plano; greatgrandson Landon Cloud of Killeen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

 Billie C. Westerfield, 71, of Crawford, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at the Canaan Baptist Church near Crawford. Interment will be at the Crawford Cemetery under the direction of Foss
Funeral Home.

Westerfield was born August 14, 1938, in McLennan County. He was the son of Carl and Rosemary (Pollard) Westerfield. He was married to LaJuana Hawkins on June 27, 1958, in Crawford.

He had formerly worked for Rocketdyne, Central Freight, and Crawford I.S.D.

He loved hunting, his cattle, family, and friends. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Ginger Martin.
Survivors included his wife LaJuana Westerfield of Crawford, his mother; Rosemary Westerfield; a son, Lane Westerfield and wife, Greta, of Crawford; 5 grandchildren, Shanda Harrison, Bethani Stanford both of Waco, Jacob, Sara, and Luke Westerfield all of Crawford.

 Funeral services for Wyndi Nicole “Niki” Carlson, 32, were held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11 a.m., at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Interment will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery.

Niki Carlson was born in Clifton on May 8, 1977, the daughter of Owen and Sandi Carlson. She passed away on March 18, 2010, in Austin.

She was loved by everyone she knew and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her Grandpa Milford “Papa” Carlson and Milton “Grampe” Payne, and uncle, Russell “Rusty.”

Survivors include her parents, Owen and Sandi Carlson; sisters, Misti Glass and husband, Dusty, and Jami Edwards and husband, Rudy, all of Cranfills Gap; grandparents, Betty “Grandma” Smith and Weldon, Jayne “Mimi” Payne and Gary, Ann Payne; nieces and nephews, Blaine and Brady Glass and Delani and Jaxon Gage Edwards; and numerous aunts, uncles, and many friends.
