Dr. Tom Bracher, a member of the LEC committee said that no matter what taxes will be raised to house prisoners - but the concern is, how will the money be spent - on a new jail for the county or to house prisoners out of county. He closed by telling the court that “we expect you to be good stewards of our money.”
Nancy Bratcher noted that she didn’t feel the people know all the facts, or already have their minds made up and added that even if the court makes the decision to issue certificates of obligation, the voters would still have the right to call for an election.
Bill Murdoch said that he was embarrassed by the low turnout at the Clifton town hall meeting, but that he felt that it is important that the court make its decision. But, he added, “I’d still like to vote on it.”

Several of the speakers and the final decision drew a brief applause from the visitors to the meeting.
A public hearing on the Mosque County Hospital District drew no speakers from the audience, and the petition for the district was certified as having the required number of signatures.

A brief discussion on the upcoming May 8 election, gained approval for all polls to be open for that election also.
Sheriff Anthony Malott spoke briefly on the need for a county curfew and turned over to the court papers concerning the possible setting of a curfew. A decision was tabled until the court has time to study the papers and will make a decision at the next meeting of the court on April 26.
