‘American Patriot’ Headlines TEA Party Celebration Print E-mail
Tuesday, April 13 2010 03:11 pm

The event is planned as a “peaceful protest” to allow elected representatives to hear the public’s voices, according to the group.
The modern TEA party movement (Taxed Enough Already) takes its name from the famed Boston Tea Party of 1773. Colonists, furious at the British Parliament for enacting a duty on imported tea, boarded three ships anchored off Griffin’s Wharf in Boston Harbor. Once on board, the patriots emptied a total of 342 crates of tea into the harbor sending a message to the British Parliament and King George III. The events that followed would lead to the colonists fight for American independence.
The featured speaker for the rally is a man who embodies the essence of patriotism, service and sacrifice. After hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 collided into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell was thrown to the ground and engulfed in flames. Of the burns that consumed 60 percent of his body, nearly half were third degree, resulting in the need for 30+ operations.
Birdwell, recently addressed The President’s Commission on Care to America’s Wounded Warriors regarding how his faith based ministry assists wounded servicemen and women, the genesis of how the organization came about from the events of September 11th, and his wounding that day at the Pentagon from critical burns. “By the grace of Christ, I would survive after many challenges while hospitalized. Birdwell said that as ghastly and brutal an experience it is being a patient in a burn unit, it did intensify his appreciation for God’s gift of life.
“A question I often get is was your faith in Christ as strong prior to September 11th? The answer is yes, just not as tested,” he said.
The rally will also feature historical characters, music, and additional speakers. Join with your fellow Patriots to send a message to your elected officials in Washington and make your voices heard.
